What is the proper way to respond to the reactivity of others?

At this moment, my hands are shaking and I can’t catch my breath. It’s all I can do to hit the proper keys on the keyboard. Adrenaline is coursing through my veins, and the ‘precipitating event’ was nearly an hour ago. What was the experience that shook me to my core, you ask? It was ...

It's not just fear of the Squeeze that keeps us from yearly mammogram

Some may argue that a pelvic exam is equally as poignant, but not me. I maintain that the annual mammogram visit is much more profound than a date with a speculum.

"Gremlins"--those voices in our head--are sneaky little buggers!

Opportunistic little buggers, gremlins have no qualms about hitting below the belt, or taking advantage of us when our defenses are down. In fact, they are WIRED to shift into high gear when our defenses are at our lowest, when we are feeling vulnerable.

Do you make a place for PAUSE in your life?

There is a pause before the swing of a golf club or softball bat; the pause of reflection before we try something new; the pause while we find the words we seek; the pause to catch our breath. I know I'm addicted to email. Are you too?

The jury’s verdict is clear: I am addicted to email. And by extension, I suppose I can say I’m also addicted to my laptop and my cell phone. This year our most holy day of the year, Yom Kippur coincided with our holiest day of each week, the Sabbath. In an effort to honor both, with repentance and no work, I decided there would be no computers for me for 24 hours – no phone, no laptop. Cold turkey.

Now that summer is over, take care to schedule mini-vacations

True vacations, while much-needed, are often left off the busy person’s list of achievements. We fast-paced, multi-tasking, busy professionals tend to have trouble relaxing. When we are accustomed to squeezing what feels like 30 waking hours out of a 24-hour-day, it can be hard to slow down. Really hard ...

Eating Gluten Was Making a Mess of My Daughter

If this blog can change the story for ONE other person - child or adult - then the telling is worthwhile ... "My firstborn daughter was a perfect, quiet baby for fourteen days ... then medical mania began."

Did I do the right thing to tell my mom about a friend with bulimia?

I believe in doing what is ‘right’ (though not necessarily what is expected), and like any self-respecting youngest child, I’m passionate about what is ‘fair.' That decision can mean - even as a teenager - breaking the cardinal rule of teenagers ...
